Six Sentence Sunday – February 13

Posted by on Feb 12, 2011 in Six Sentence Sunday | 15 comments

I just found out about this nifty site called Six Sentence Sunday that has writers post links to blog or website entries where they put up six sentences from a work in progress, or something they recently sold, or even a book that’s available for sale. What a fun way to see what people are working on! I’ve decided to put up six sentences from Heart of Gold, a WIP that’s about two-thirds of the way through its first draft. Changes

I can tell there’s a shift going on. First off, I changed my hair color (which means those author photos I spent all that money on are now out of date, but oh, well). Point of view refers to the character or characters from whose vantage point we witness the events that take place in a novel or other work of fiction. Sounds simple enough, right? But choosing which p.o.v. to use can impact  your storytelling more than almost any other authorial decision you make. This tends to be an unconscious decision for me; I’m a character-driven writer, so in almost every case I’ve had the main character tell me which point of view she wants her story...

Here we go again

Latest person to board the fanfiction wank train: Diana Gabaldon. It seems one of these rants manages to percolate through the blogosphere about once a year. I don’t know if there’s a set timetable for these sorts of things or not, but they do crop up on a regular basis. Unfortunately, fanfiction is one of those things people will probably never agree on; trying to find an accord between the opposing camps is a little bit like trying to get the Democrats and Republicans to find...
